Our work with ESG
ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance. It is a framework used to measure organizations impact on the environment and society, as well as its governance practices.
DEIF has worked with sustainability topics related to environment, social and governance (ESG) for many years. Our ambition is to become the market leader in intelligent energy control, and that requires having high standards in everything we do – including our work with sustainability. This page highlights recent examples of initiatives, achievements and targets that reflect our ongoing efforts.
“We want to make a difference, and we CAN make a difference, and this wish to make a difference shall be the foundation for the long-term development of DEIF.”
Toke Foss, Chairman and owner
Our approach
At DEIF, our work with sustainability is guided by a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA). A DMA helps us understand how our business affects the world around us and how changes in society, the environment and regulations might affect us here at DEIF. This approach helps us identify and act upon the most important environmental, social, and governance (ESG) topics. Below, you’ll find an overview highlighting our most important ESG focus areas:
Environmental sustainability:
We work to reduce our impact on the environment both globally and locally. We combine large-scale actions, such as cutting carbon emissions and tracking progress through annual reviews, with smaller, supporting initiatives that focus on areas like resource reuse and biodiversity at our facilities.
Climate ambitions aligned with Paris Agreement (1,5℃)
DEIF has approved near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the SBTi (Science Based Targets Initiative). Targets were approved at the end of 2024 by the SBTi, one year after committing to setting targets.

Near-term: DEIF A/S commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 67% by 2030 from a 2023 base year. DEIF A/S commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased good and services, fuel- and energy- related activities, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, employee commuting, processing of sold products, use of sold products, and end-of-life treatment of sold products 42% within the same timeframe.
Long-term: DEIF A/S commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions 90% by 2025 from a 2023 base year.
Overall Net-Zero Target: DEIF A/S commits to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050 .
GHG inventory
Each year, we conduct a GHG inventory where we measure our carbon emissions across Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3. This annual review helps us track progress and stay on course to meet our emission reduction targets.
Biodiversity
The impact of DEIF’s operations on biodiversity is limited, as we own only 3.8 hectares of land at our Skive headquarters. Still, we have redesigned and replanted outdoor areas to create habitats for insects and other species. Given the small area, the effect is limited, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t act.
Resource circularity:
We continuously look for practical ways to reuse our resources. One example is rethinking how we handle the approximately 25 tons of cardboard waste we produce each year. While the environmental impact is small, it helps us make better use of materials we already have. Learn more about our cardboard project here.
Social sustainability
DEIF has created a Social Ambition that governs how we work with social sustainability. This is to ensure employee well-being, create local community impact and act as a responsible and inclusive workplace.
Wellbeing programme: One of our initiatives within our Social Ambition is the development of a well-being programme that aims to sustain and improve employee motivation, engagement and well-being. We believe setting the right standards for our working environment ensures a better working life for everyone. In the programme employees can access tools and courses focussing on mindfulness, stress prevention and physical exercises to do at work.
Local communities: Supporting the local communities, we are part of is also very important to us here at DEIF. One of the ways we are doing so is by cooperating with universities and technical schools locally and across the world, sponsoring equipment and offering teaching resources. This is not only to potentially attract new talents, but also to boost overall interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and encourage innovative thinking.
Diversity and inclusion: We aim to build a culture of diversity and inclusion where everyone is respected and valued. In 2024, DEIF in Denmark signed the Diversity Pledge from the Danish Industry trade organization, which provides tools for setting diversity targets. An example: In 2025, we continue working to create a workplace where people with, for instance AD(H)D (attention deficit (hyperactivity) disorder) can thrive, and where managers are equipped with the necessary tools to support minorities in their teams.
Strengthening human rights due diligence: We are committed to upholding the UN guiding principles on human rights and are working on building a comprehensive human rights due diligence process to strengthen operations both upstream, downstream, and inside DEIF.
Governance:
Code of conduct
The DEIF Code of Conduct governs our work. All employees have been introduced to the Code of Conduct, and all new employees receive training as part of the onboarding programme.
Cooperation with suppliers
To sustain high standards in operation, we also require all major suppliers, sub-suppliers and business partners to sign and commit to our Supplier Code of Conduct. We conduct audits and follow-up meetings with selected suppliers and set targets for self-assessment and reporting. In case of non-compliance, we ask suppliers to prepare action plans to close the gaps.
Anti-corruption
DEIF has zero tolerance for corruption, bribery and extortion as stated in DEIF’s anticorruption policy. Our contracts are always prepared in accordance with existing laws and regulations, ensuring that contracts with suppliers, consultants and other partners include section on anticorruption. Regular brush-up courses are carried out throughout the organisation to sustain awareness.
Data ethics
We are committed to protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our information assets and data. As a supplier to critical infrastructure, we want to comply with the requirements of the EU NIS-2 Directive and to protect personal data according to GDPR. Alongside this, we have implemented a new data governance model and issued a DEIF Information Security Management System.
A peak inside the engine room: The structure of our sustainability work
At DEIF, we are continuously working to improve our operations within sustainability, and to do so, we have made an internal organisation deigned to ensure progress, boost idea generation and encourage employee involvement. Read more about our sustainability workflow here.
